Maryland: FBI agent who was fired after killing teen in DWI crash had no insurance

BRANDYWINE, Md. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation says it has fired the agent accused of a drunk driving accident here two weeks ago that killed 18-year-old Lawrence Garner, Jr.
“That’s good news because a guy that that’s irresponsible doesn’t deserve to hold a job of that caliber.
“It’s not going to bring my son back but it’s a start. This is only the beginning of what we’re out to do…to get these people [drunk drivers] off the roads. I’m glad he lost his job,” said Lawrence Garner, Sr. when told the news by 9NEWS NOW.   …..MORE

A charge against the former commanding officer of Cherry Point Air Station for driving after his license was revoked was dismissed Thursday, according to officials with the Northampton County Clerk of Court’s office. The charge followed a traffic stop by a state trooper in Northampton County, occurring less than 30 days after Col. Douglas Denn, 47, was arrested on Oct. 25 while driving on U.S. 70 in Carteret County and charged with driving while impaired, driving with an open container, and speeding 12 miles over the posted limit of 55 miles per hour. ….MORE

DWI, dangerous driving crackdown begins

Statement issued Friday by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute:
Indianapolis, IN. – Beginning today, more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police, will step up patrols in a statewide crackdown on impaired and aggressive drivers.  Earlier this week, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) and the Governor’s Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving announced their support of the effort, which ends on March 20. ….MORE

Indiana State Police nabbed 54 drunk drivers in northern section of state during January
Fort Wayne-
The Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne have released statistics for the month of January 2011.  Troopers issued a total of 1733 traffic citations and 3179 traffic warnings.  Troopers also arrested 54 drunk drivers and made 174 criminal arrests.

    Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Fort Wayne Post worked 16 new cases and made four criminal arrests, all of which were felony arrests.  There were a total of 126 cases drawn by both troopers and detectives.
    The four K-9 teams of Troopers Shultz (Gunnar), Shenefield (Beau), Neuenschwander (Smokey) and Carroll (Deezle) had between them, a total of 28 searches which yielded 14 arrests, and assisted other agencies on 10 occasions.  They also seized two grams of crack cocaine, 30 grams of ecstasy 31 grams of marijuana.
    The Indiana State Police Post in Fort Wayne proudly serves the citizens in the following 11 northeast Indiana Counties:  Adams, Allen, Blackford, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley.

New York: Judge who lost election must have been crying in his beer…pleaded guilty to DWI, awarded ignition interlock and fine

A former Essex County state Supreme Court judge was sentenced for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated in Saratoga County earlier this week.   Judge James P. Dawson, 65, of Elizabethtown, pleaded guilty in Wilton town court, according to reports. He was fined $500, had his drivers’ license suspended and must attend a victims’ impact panel and install an alcohol-sensing interlock on his car. He received a conditional discharge, meaning the sentence can be modified if he gets in trouble over the next year….MORE

Texas: man drank all day in bar, stole his momma’s car and killed homeless man…dead…

HOUSTON (KTRK) — An alleged drunk driver who police say took his mother’s car without permission and fatally struck a homeless man has been arrested and charged in connection with the victim’s death.
 Carlton Jay Eberle is charged with accident involving injury as well as driving while intoxicated. Police say a homeless man had just left a local bar and was crossing the street in the 1700 block of State Highway 6 about 11:20pm on Wednesday when he was struck by a red Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by Eberle, southbound on Highway 6. Louisiana: Calcasieu Sheriff Mancuso taking tough action against drunk driving, cuts fatals from 18 in 2008 to 3 in 2010

Sulphur, La. —  Since he took office in 2004, Sheriff Tony Mancuso has taken an aggressive stance on deterring crime. As well, he has set the standard for a productive, proactive, professional and proud law enforcement agency at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
“The good news is [that] probably about 95 percent of our community is good. It’s that five percent that’s not that just makes it very difficult on a daily basis in our job. Unfortunately, I see the bad everyday in our community. We do live in a good, safe community but we’re certainly not without problems,” stated the sheriff at Wednesday’s Sulphur Rotary Club meeting.  ….MORE
     On Saturday, February 19, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI and seatbelt checkpoint in the 1600 block of Sampson Street in Westlake to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics; as well as, people who are not wearing their seatbelt.              One thousand, seven hundred and sixty- nine (1769) vehicles were checked; ten (10) field sobriety tests were administered; and twenty-eight (28) citations were issued; and the following one (1) person was arrested for DWI:

                        Mitchell G. Allen, 44, 2022 Avenue, Apt. #K, Danbury, TX

            The following citations were issued:

  • Nine (9) for no seatbelt
  • One (1) for open container
  • Eleven (11) for expired motor vehicle inspection
  • Two (2) for no child restraint
  • Two (2) for no motor vehicle insurance
  • Two (2) for no head lights
  • One (1) for no driver’s license

            Participating in this checkpoint were the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office; Lake Charles City Police; and the Kinder Police Department; Westlake Police Department; and the LA Highway Safety Commission.

            This DWI checkpoint was funded by a grant from the LA Highway Safety Commission.
