Kentucky: stop signs don’t apply to intoxicated Covington City Commissioner Steven Frank; DUI charged by cops

COVINGTON, Ky. (July 31, 2011)  –
A Covington city  commissioner was arrested and booked into the Kenton County Detention Center  early Saturday morning.
Covington police said City Commissioner Steven L. Frank was observed by  officers at about 2:31 a.m. in Covington, at Rivercenter Boulevard and Madison  Avenue.  According to police, Frank ran two stop signs. ….MORE

 

Police said they suspected alcohol to be involved. After an  investigation, it was determined that Frank was driving under the influence.

Washington: woman out on bail in a DWI fatality is charged again with DWI

EVERETT, Washington (July 30, 2011)– A woman out on bail in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Marysville has been arrested again on suspicion of drunken driving.
Police say Theresa Ecklund, 43, passed out in the back seat of a patrol car after she was arrested in June during a countywide crackdown on intoxicated drivers.
The arresting officer noted that Ecklund was “blasted,” according to court documents filed Wednesday. At the time, Ecklund was out on bail for a Dec. 10 fatal crash that took the life of David Johnson. ….MORE

Indiana: state police arrest Seymour Police Officer for DUI after he crashed while towing a D.A.R.E. trailer

Indiana state troopers arrested a Seymour, Ind. police officer on DUI charges after he crashed a pickup pulling a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) trailer Wednesday night.
Police say John Newcomb, 38, was driving the pickup pulling the trailer along Main Street in Salem around 10:30 p.m. when he sideswiped a legally parked vehicle along the road and crashed into a tree.
Investigators say it was quickly apparent alcohol was likely a factor.

An Orange County firefighter with an extensive disciplinary record has been fired after a DUI arrest, according to documents from Orange County Fire Rescue.
Matthew Hotchkiss, 25, of Winter Park, was arrested by the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety on July 10. His termination was effective Friday, according to a July 21 termination letter from the fire department.
Hotchkiss reportedly drove into a parking lot behind the public safety department through an entrance marked “do not enter.” When a public safety officer stopped Hotchkiss, the officer noticed that the firefighter-paramedic smelled strongly of alcohol, according to an arrest report….MORE

Idaho: man who never did any jail time for killing teen while drunk now pleads guilty again to DUI; was twice legal limit

BURLEY • A Heyburn man on probation for causing a 2005 alcohol-involved crash that killed a Rupert teen has pleaded guilty to a separate driving under the influence charge.
Robert Ray Brackenbury, 27, will be sentenced for a March 2010 DUI charge at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13, in Cassia County 5th District Court. His guilty plea will also represent a violation of his probation for a vehicular manslaughter charge related to the death of 14-year-old Aimee Marie Souza of Rupert.

Washington: witness says man who killed in roadrage DUI crash pounded his chest like a gorilla when he climbed out of his truck

After his SUV slammed into another man’s car in Kirkland on Sunday afternoon, the driver got out and “pounded on his chest like a gorilla,” according to a witness to the fatal crash.
Steven Lacey, the driver of the car, was killed instantly, according to Patricia Kaiser, of Kirkland, who witnessed the crash near Interstate 405. The driver of the SUV, identified by the State Patrol as Patrick Rexroat, was charged Wednesday with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.
