Michigan: Judge rules Brett Frame will face trial for murder in deaths of 2 in DWI crash

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The man accused of killing two men after driving drunk and crashing into the back of their car faced a judge Wednesday.
Brett Frame is facing seven charges, including two counts of second degree murder.
The big question at Wednesday’s hearing was whether what Frame did constitutes second degree murder.
The prosecution says Frame told investigators that he was an alcoholic who had fallen off the wagon. They believe his actions showed a total disregard for the safety of other people on the road…..MORE

New Mexico: City council candidate shows he is ready for politics by racking up 2nd DWI; is wanted on federal fugitive charges for DWI in Virginia!

Las Cruces City Council District 4 candidate Ryan Matthew Dailey, who was arrested Sunday on drunken driving charges in Las Cruces, is also wanted on a federal warrant for DWI in Virginia.
Until a federal magistrate in Las Cruces decides whether to extradite Dailey to Virginia or release him and order him to appear for court in that state, Dailey is being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
Ben Segotta, the public information officer for the U.S. Marshals Service in New Mexico, said Dailey is wanted for DWI in Norfolk, Virginia. The charge is federal because Dailey was allegedly driving under the influence on a Naval base there. …..MORE

South Carolina: DUI laws a mess, drunks populate the roads, legal system in melt-down, hundreds of cases dropped just to “clear” the backlog

Acting under orders from state Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal, magistrates in Richland and Lexington counties disposed of more than 1,300 drunken-driving cases in the four months between mid-March and mid-July.
According to statistics Toal released this week, that’s more than twice the number courts in those two counties disposed of during the same period last year. A blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher is legal evidence of drunken driving.
Alcohol-related driving is a major public safety problem in South Carolina. Hundreds of people die each year in accidents caused by drunken drivers…..MORE

Illinois: Berwyn Police nabbed 7 in time for DUI just prior to Labor Day

Berwyn, IL —A total of seven people were arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Berwyn between Aug. 24 and Aug 27. They include:
  • Isaac Torres, 19, 1613 S. 49th Court, Cicero, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of drugs after a traffic stop in the 6800 block of 31st Street at 1:50 a.m. Aug. 25.
  • Magdaldeno Quiroz, 44, 4906 29th Place, Cicero, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in the 6500 block of Cermak Road at 4:34 p.m. Aug. 24. According to police records, Quiroz registered a blood-alcohol content level of .223.
  • Jose L. Zuniga, 40, 5012 W. 24th St., Cicero, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop near the intersection of East and Ogden avenues at 11:41 p.m. Aug. 26…..MORE

MADISON, Wis. —
A man stands accused of drunken driving when his car hit and killed a Madison woman as she attempted to cross Highway 51 on Wednesday, according to Madison police.
The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 51 and East Washington Avenue on the city’s East Side.
Police said the victim, a 61-year-old woman, was trying to cross the highway when she was struck by a car attempting to turn off East Washington and onto the highway.

California: CHP reports more DUI arrests and less fatalities in Bay area

The California Highway Patrol has reported more DUIs over the Labor Day weekend compared to last year, but fewer fatalities this year in the Bay Area.
In the Bay Area CHP jurisdiction, there were 258 DUI arrests compared to 252 suspected drunken drivers last year. In 2010 the Labor Day holiday weekend saw two fatalities compared to one fatal accident this year, according to CHP reports.
In San Mateo County, holiday weekend enforcement agencies reported 211 DUI arrests, compared to 224 arrests last year over the same Friday through Monday night period, officials said…..MORE
