EPPING—An Epping man was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and driving while under the influence after an accident, killing a Newmarket man and injured three others.
At 4:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, police responded to a single vehicle collision on Red Oak Hill Road in Epping. Scanner traffic indicated the vehicle had rolled over and people were trapped inside.
The driver of the single vehicle, Scott Currier, 26, of Epping, suffered serious injuries, while one of his male passengers and two female passengers suffered minor injuries. All four were transported to Exeter Hospital.
Another male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, Joshua M. Pratt, 25, of Newmarket, suffered fatal injuries from the crash. ….MORE

Currier suffered serious injuries and three other passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Exeter Hospital for treatment.

RALEIGH –  Millbrook High junior Gabby Zullo says today will be tough as students return to school for the first time after a beloved classmate died in a wreck early Saturday.
“It’s going to be really hard going and not seeing her,” Zullo said of her friend, Elizabeth Molloy, as she stood next to a makeshift memorial for her friend on Rainwater Road.
Molloy, of Raleigh, was a passenger in a 1999 Jeep SUV driven by Millbrook student Garrett Prince, 16, according to police.  …..MORE

CONWAY — Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce Sturdivant was jailed overnight on a driving under the influence charge after police officers in Conway said she failed a field sobriety test minutes after they saw her driving erratically on city streets.
Sturdivant, 62, was given a personal recognizance bond on Monday morning in Conway City Court by Judge Andy Hendrick, meaning she does not have to pay any money to be released from jail. A Feb. 8 court date was also scheduled.
According to a report from Conway Police, Sturdivant was stopped because she was starting and stopping her sport utility vehicle at several locations on city streets. On two occasions, Sturdivant’s vehicle remained stopped at traffic lights when they turned green, officers reported…..MORE

A Lake Worth man died early today after he was pinned beneath a car in the parking lot of a nightclub on Military Trail.
Luis Jimenez died at the scene outside El Toro Loco after being struck by the car, of which the driver, Juan Diego Martinez of Lake Worth, lost control as it entered the club’s parking lot at 1999 S. Military Trail
Either drugs or alcohol appear to have played a role in the accident, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

I approached the passenger side door and immediately smelled the strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his car. He related that he is a news reporter for NBC News and had just met with attorney Joe AMENDOLA about the Jerry SANDUSKY case. His eyes were glassy. I asked how much alcohol he had consumed and he told me intially, “Two beers.” He related that one was an Otto’s Red something. His speech was slurred and he juxtaposed the letters in a few words. He also related that he takes an anti-depressant prescription drug but did not know the name. He thought it started with a “C.” He explained that he had been using his cell phone and that is why he was all over the road.
