New York: party gal who killed college classmate gets weekends in jail for six months from sob-sister judge

Nearly one year after causing a crash that killed a Nazareth College student, Danielle L. Pitcher will begin serving weekends in the Monroe County Jail next week.
County Court Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr. today sentenced Pitcher to interim probation, which means starting Jan. 20, she will serve weekends in jail through mid-May, so she can complete one final class and graduate from Nazareth College.

— A man who’s trained to make arrests for drunken driving is now on the other side of the law, sentenced for his own DUI conviction.
It was on Dec. 11, 2011 at around 2:00 a.m. when passing motorists spotted a car swerving and driving in the wrong lane on State Highway 65 near Braham.

Kentucky: police say man who plowed into bus on drugs, charged with DUI

WACO — A Waco man is charged with DUI and 34 counts of wanton endangerment after allegedly slamming into the back of a Madison County school bus Monday afternoon. None of the children on board were injured.
Johnathan T. Matney, 32, was traveling behind the bus at 3:44 p.m. on Brassfield Road, according to a Kentucky State Police news release. The bus, driven by Charles Kirby of Waco, reportedly had stopped to turn onto Gumbottom Road. ….MORE

California: CHP say meth and meds brought down motorcyclist Owen Tarr Miller; driver charged with urinating out car door

A man found urinating out a car door was among 26 people arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drunken or intoxicated driving, the CHP reported Monday.
Four people among those arrested had no driver’s licenses, four had suspended licenses and six people had previous DUI convictions, Officer Jon Sloat said.

Florida: Sheriff’s officials deny that officers could have done more to prevent Blake Talman from killing jogger while DUI

SARASOTA COUNTY – A criminology expert says deputies could have done more to stop an obviously intoxicated man at Siesta Key Beach who is suspected of driving away and crashing his car into a jogger who was killed.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says the steps suggested by the expert — including offering suspect Blake Talman a cab, seizing his car keys or tailing him while walked down the beach — fall outside normal law enforcement procedures.

Illinois: jockey who killed woman riding horse after late night party pleads guilty

Prosecutors in Will County say a man who killed a woman when he crashed his truck into a horse she was riding has pleaded guilty to aggravated drunken driving.
The office said Monday that 42-year-old Michigan resident Angus Lake faces a sentence of up to 14 years in prison when he returns to court for sentencing in March.
Prosecutors say Lake and two women were drinking one night in April 2011 at Balmoral Park Racetrack in Crete when they left to go horseback riding.
