Massachusetts: Angelique Griffin charged with homicide after drunk driving crash killed Dillion Renard; ride with a drunk driver, buy a ticket to your own funeral

A Salem woman was arraigned this morning at Salem District Court on a charge of vehicular homicide after a drunk-driving accident resulted in the death of a passenger early Saturday morning, according to Salem police prosecuter Conrad Prosniewski.
A judge set cash bail at $10,000 for Angelique Griffin, a 25-year-old Salem resident who was arrested for motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation, OUI, driving to endanger, and open container in a motor vehicle after she hit a parked tow-truck on Boston Street, killing 19-year-old Dillon Renard.
A pretrial hearing has been set for July 18.  …MORE

Mississippi: Police charge Ravielle Bolton with DUI after she rear-ended vehicle and killed three people

LUCEDALE, Miss. (WALA) – Family members from both sides of Saturday’s deadly accident on Mississippi 63 were at the site Monday.
A highway patrol spokesman said investigators who reconstructed the wreck believe Ravielle Bolton’s car rear-ended a Ford sport-utility vehicle while both vehicles were traveling south on Mississippi 63 near Lucedale June 16.
Simon Patterson, who was driving the SUV, lost control. The vehicle went into a turn lane on the highway and rolled over.
Patterson and two others, Jermaine and Andre Rogers, were ejected in the crash. All three died. A 16-year-old in the SUV was treated and released at a nearby hospital.
Bolton is now also charged with driving under the influence in the accident.
Bolton’s mother, Gail Tatum, and his sister said their hearts go out to the families of the three people….MORE

California: Elba Jimenez in her party car ran into Taco truck and killed two, says CHP

Two women who were killed in Boyle Heights Saturday when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver fleeing California Highway Patrol officers have been identified as 19-year-old Marlene Alatorre and 38-year-old Claudia Fernandez, authorities said.
The two died late Saturday after a 2005 Toyota Camry allegedly driven by Elba Jimenez, 37, of Upland, ran a red light and plowed into a crowd of taco truck patrons, according to the CHP. At least two other people suffered minor injuries, officers said.
Jimenez, who also sustained minor injuries, has been booked on suspicion of murder and drunk driving, CHP Sgt. Manuel Gill said Sunday. ….MORE

New York: cops say bozo who backed into patrol car busted for DWI and carrying coke

An alleged drunken driver crashed his vehicle into a Suffolk County police car during the traffic stop in Huntington Station early Sunday morning, authorities said.
An officer stopped Mario Moradel for a traffic violation on West 15th Street and as the officer approached the vehicle, the 44-year-old man backed up and crashed into the parked patrol car.
No one was injured in the crash. Moradel, of Huntington Station, was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. ….MORE

California: Cadillac going ’bout 95…or more…hits boat, trailer, van and starts fire; Matthew J. Burnham busted for DUI

Authorities believe a 39-year-old Pacifica man was drunk early Saturday when he crashed his Cadillac into a boat, van and finally sparked a two-alarm fire in a Half Moon Bay storage facility.
The driver, Matthew J. Burnham, and two passengers were injured in the 1:55 a.m. crash on Airport Street south of Stanford Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel. Burnham was later arrested for driving under the influence at Stanford Hospital, where he was treated for fractured ribs and a ruptured spleen, police said.
Burnham was allegedly driving a 2011 Cadillac CTS north on Airport at a high, but undisclosed, rate of speed. He lost control of the car and it veered to the right, hitting a boat and trailer parked on Airport. Then Burnham allegedly hit a van parked near a storage facility.
Montiel said the force of the collision pushed the van into the storage facility and both caught fire. ….MORE

North Carolina: Steven Bennie Driggers charged with fatal wreck; DWI charges pending in head-on

A 20-year-old male is responsible for a head-on collision early Saturday morning. The Charlotte Police are reporting the suspect was speeding while driving drunk.
The accident claimed the life of a 55-year-old male from the other vehicle and left the victim’s wife and daughter, 16, injured.
The incident happened around 1:00 a.m. Saturday.
The impaired driver was Steven Bennie Driggers. The car Driggers was driving struck a LeSabre almost head on as his car crossed the center line and before going into a ditch.
Reinaldo Montejo Rodriguez was the driver of the LeSabre and died in route to the hospital. Rodriguez’s wife and daughter were transported to the hospital with serious injuries but non-life threatening.  ….MORE

Shawn Marti’s death at hands of drunken driver in 2003 motivates Angela Boyle to volunteer on victim panel
CANYON COUNTY — Shawn Marti displayed a gift for music and studied psychology at Boise State because he wanted to help people live better lives.
That was before a drunken driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 84 in Caldwell smashed head on into Marti’s car, instantly killing him and his 5-month-old daughter, Sage, and severely injuring his wife Natalie.
The tragedy that happened Feb. 27, 2003, forever changed the life of many people, including Marti’s sister Angela Boyle of Nampa. Boyle has told the story of her personal loss at high schools, colleges and drivers education classes in an attempt to make people realize the potential consequences of driving drunk. She also runs the Canyon County Mothers Against Drunk Driving victims panel where loved ones of victims of drunken driving accidents tell DUI offenders about the horrors that can come from their actions.

A Brant man driving more than 100 mph early Saturday on Route 438 on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation was drunk, Erie County sheriff’s officials said.
Anthony R. LeRoy, 31, arrested shortly after 3 a.m., was arrested on Lane Drive after a short pursuit, deputies said.

Noteworthy:Following his most recent DUI arrest in April 2010, he posted a $10,000 bond, skipped out on a court hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He fled to Dayton, Ohio, where he was arrested in July 2011 and is now serving a prison sentence after being convicted of felony charges of inducing panic and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
