by admin ·

Police Say Fat Cat Lawyer was resisting arrest too!
From AllGov.com

President Obama’s nominee to be the next ambassador to Netherlands has withdrawn his name from the confirmation process in the wake of his recent arrest for drunk driving and resisting arrest. Timothy M. Broas, 58, was pulled over by Montgomery County, Maryland, police at 1:18 a.m. on June 19, at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Shepherd Street in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and charged with “attempting to drive [a] vehicle while under the influence of alcohol,” driving 47 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, and resisting arrest, the latter charge being criminal in nature. At the time of his arrest, Broas was only one mile away from his home. The White House announced the withdrawal on June 28. A partner in the Washington, DC, office of the Chicago-based law firm of Winston & Strawn, Broas has raised more than $500,000 for Obama’s re-election efforts as a bundler, meaning that he raised the money from friends, family, or business associates. For Obama’s 2008 campaign, Broas bundled between $200,000 and $500,000. Obama, like every modern President before him, has nominated about two dozen bundlers to ambassadorships ….MORE

From Houston Chronicle
A suspected drunken driver caused a wrong-way head-on wreck that injured him and killed three people about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday on southbound Interstate 45 near Woodlands Parkway.
Montgomery County Police Reporter notes in a detailed story on its website that the latest fatal wreck happened just two days after a similar drunken driving crash on I-45 at Research.

Delaware: Boozing lawmaker won’t suffer punishment by his buddies in legislature for his 2nd DWI

by admin ·

From Delaware Online
The House Ethics Committee decided in the waning hours of this year’s legislative session Saturday evening not to take any action regarding the conduct of Dover Democratic Rep. Brad Bennett, who was arrested in April on drunken driving charges for the second time in his legislative career. (Bennett has already made some noise about running in 2014, however. More on that later.)
House Majority Leader Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth, who chairs the ethics committee, said Bennett’s commitment not to run for re-election in November is a satisfactory resolution.
“We can’t punish him more than he has himself,” Schwartzkopf said. “If we were to expel him from the chamber, he could run again in November. He is, in effect, expelling himself for the next two years.”
After his arrest, Bennett spent weeks in a substance abuse recovery program before returning to the House and delivering a tearful public statement in which he said he would serve out his term but not run again this year.
“I’m not going to make excuses for his behavior,” Schwartzkopf said. “He’s made his apologies, and they were heartfelt.”
The Ethics Committee held an unadvertised meeting Tuesday (in violation of House rules) to discuss the complaint…MORE
