A West Carthage woman was arrested twice within about two hours early Saturday morning by Watertown police on charges of driving while intoxicated.
Lindsey L. Babcock, 26, of 93 Champion St., was initially taken into custody at 2:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Girard Avenue, where she was additionally cited with speeding and failure to stop while entering a roadway when exiting a driveway. Police listed her blood-alcohol level as 0.16 percent. Under state law, 0.08 percent constitutes intoxication.
She was released to the custody of a friend, but shortly before 5 a.m., police said she was seen driving again, this time in the 500 block of Jefferson Street. Here, she was cited with DWI and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Her alcohol level for the second arrest had dropped to 0.13 percent, police said.
She was released on $250 bail.
Early Friday morning, city police charged Johnnie B. Green Jr., 40, of 24428 Route 11, Calcium, with felony DWI ….MORE

A Los Alamos fire battalion chief has been arrested on suspicion of driving drunk.
Albuquerque police pulled over 36-year-old Kelly Sterna around midnight at a sobriety check point.
According to the criminal complaint, police observed “signs of intoxication,” at which time they asked Sterna to take sobriety field tests.
“The driver showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest,” the criminal complaint states.
He was booked into jail but has since been released on bond.  ….MORE

HUNTINGTON BEACH (KTLA) — The state Office of Traffic and Safety has released new data suggesting that Huntington Beach has the largest number of alcohol-related crashes per-capita in California. And one bar in particular is in hot water, after police complaints that it’s been linked to an excessive number of drunk driving arrests.
The bar in question is Baja Sharkeez. In 22 months, 72 Sharkeez patrons were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, according to Huntington Beach police. Authorities say they ask people arrested on suspicion of DUI where they have been drinking.
Hurricanes Bar & Grill had the second highest number of DUI arrests linked to it in the same period, at 52. Killarney Pub & Grill was third, with 33. ….MORE

Family members have set funeral services for the two San Gabriel residents killed in a suspected drunken driving accident Tuesday.
Joseph Almario, 21, and Manolo “Simon” Magat, 23, were killed after the car they were in flew off a freeway interchange. Driver Christine Meng, 22, of San Gabriel, had a blood alcohol content of 0.11 percent at the time of the accident, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Passenger Jason Lieu, 22, of San Gabriel, was injured in the crash, at about 1 a.m. Tuesday on the intersection between the 710 and 10 freeways. All four are graduates of Gabrielino High School.
A post on Instagram shows the four holding drinks at Los Angeles bar Villains Tavern, and a Facebook post by Meng – which a source said was later taken down – tagged at the same bar assures a friend “I am driving but I’m ok. Bitches be drunk.”
A wake for Almario will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Pierce Brothers Turner and Stevens Mortuary, 1136 E. Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel, with a vigil at 6 p.m. today. ….MORE

An Erie County Sheriff’s deputy was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault after he allegedly struck and critically injured a motorcyclist from behind at about 4 a.m. Saturday, Amherst police said.
The deputy, Michael E. Haug, 28, of Kenmore, was off-duty at the time of the crash, authorities said.
The victim, Daniel J. Colosimo, 37, of the Town of Tonawanda was thrown from his 1982 Suzuki motorcycle. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center where he was being treated for head injuries. Amherst police said doctors listed him in critical condition.
Investigators with the Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit said in a statement that the incident occurred at about 4:07 a.m. Colosimo was stopped at a red light on the westbound side of Sheridan Drive, at Bailey Avenue. He was struck from behind by Haug, who was driving a 2011 Jeep, police said.
Haug was arrested and taken to Amherst Police headquarters ….MORE

An 11-year veteran of the FrederickPolice Department pleaded guilty Friday to driving while impaired by alcohol.
Robert Wayne Pierce, 55, was charged in March with driving drunk after his patrol car was reported as traveling erratically on U.S. 15 near South JeffersonStreet, causing a single-vehicle crash.
Two other charges, driving under the influence of alcohol and failure of a driver to stop after a property damage accident, will be dropped as part of the plea agreement announced in court Friday.
After such an arrest, it is common practice for patrol officers to charge the person with both DUI and DWI, with the final offense to be decided by the court. DUI carries a heavier maximum penalty for conviction on the first offense — one year in jail, compared with six months for DWI — and requires a greater level of evidence for a conviction.
During Friday’s hearing, Pierce and his attorney, Dino E. Flores Jr., agreed to a statement of facts set out by a special prosecutor, Carroll County Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Daniels.
Daniels said police received reports that Pierce’s patrol car was seen moving erratically and had hit a guardrail, damaging a taillight.
When officers found Pierce and the car in Middletownmore than an hour later, his eyes appeared watery and glassy, and he had a slight injury to one of his forearms, Daniels said.
Pierce told police he had consumed alcohol and a sleeping pill. He refused to take a breath test. Officers noted what appeared to be vomit on Pierce’s shirt and in the car, Daniels said.
Pierce was placed on administrative duties with the department immediately after his arrest….MORE

A state police cruiser was on a road detail on Route 195 West near Plymouth Avenue when it was struck in the driver’s side door. The driver of the other vehicle kept driving until she was stopped further down the road.
