Wisconsin: James M. Menard killed in crash as Tara Carlson ran stop sign and struck Kia in which he was a passenger

JANESVILLE, Wisconsin (Aug. 19, 2012) — Information from Rock County Sheriff’s Office:
On 08-18-12 at 10:22 pm Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Janesville Fire Department responded to a two vehicle crash at Hwy 11 just west of Janesville.
Deputies began arriving on scene at 10:30 pm and noticed a white Chevy Impala sitting in the intersection with flames coming from the engine compartment. The second vehicle, a silver Kia Optima was east of the intersection on the north side of the road. Janesville Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. The driver of Impala was extricated from the vehicle and transported to UW Hospital in Madison by Med Flight.
The second vehicle was occupied by four subjects three of which were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Janesville. The fourth subject was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock County Coroner’s Office.
The preliminary investigation shows that the Impala, operated by Tara Carlson, 39 from Janesville, was heading northbound on W. STH 11 and failed to stop at a stop sign. After going through the stop sign, the Impala impacted the Kia that was operated by Randall J. Owens, a 64 year old from Footville. The other surviving occupants of the Kia were identified as Ellen R. Owens, a 56 year old from Footville, and Ruth A. Coyle, a 57 year old female from Chicago, IL. A Marysville man faces serious charges after he was arrested for DUI on Friday afternoon.
Jose Vega, 33, was driving his Volvo north on Interstate 81 around mile marker 58 when he lost control of his vehicle. He traveled across both northbound lanes and struck a guardrail.
When an officer arrived, he informed Vega he was under arrest for DUI. However, Vega resisted arrest and then assaulted both a fire fighter and a state trooper. ….MORE

Louisiana: Jackie Gautreaux faces DWI homicide charges in death of passenger when Jeep got a pole in one

PARKS- This morning, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 347 near Hebert Lane which claimed the life of a St. Martinville man.
According to investigating Troopers, on August 18, 2012, shortly before 3:00 a.m., 26-year-old Jackie Gautreaux of St. Martinville, was driving a 1999 Jeep SUV north on LA 347. For reasons still under investigation, Gautreaux drove off the right side of the road where his vehicle traveled through a ditch, struck a utility pole then struck a culvert. Gautreaux, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.
One of the passengers in Gautreaux’s vehicle, 22-year-old Whitney Viator of St. Martinville, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Troopers indicated Viator was properly restrained. The second passenger in the vehicle, also of Martinville, was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead by the St. Martin Parish Coroner.

The following were charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

Scott A. Monroe, 43, Natural Bridge, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies at 10:55 p.m. Monday with felony DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle on Route 3 in the town of Wilna. His blood alcohol content was listed as 0.13 percent. State law sets 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication. His felony charge is based on his DWI conviction from an arrest in April 2008 in Carthage. He also was cited with crossing hazard markings, failure to keep right and having an unsecured license plate.

David T. Harrigan, 62, of 26137 Allen Drive, Watertown, was charged by state police with felony DWI, operating a vehicle with suspended registration, driving an uninsured vehicle and having insufficient taillights as a result of his arrest at 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 342 in the town of Pamelia. He tested at 0.10 percent BAC, police said. He is charged with a felony because he was convicted of DWI in January 2004.

August 18, 2012 —An Escambia County man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after an early morning wreck on Nine Mile Road that left one man dead and woman in critical
condition.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 28-year old Skylar Clint Davis of Pensacola was traveling east in the westbound lane of Nine Mile Road at Northminster Lane in a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 when he topped the crest of a hill and struck a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier head-on.

Massachusetts: hexes and witchcraft enter the fray as prosecutor mulls over grand jury indictment for Angelique Griffin charged with DWI homicide

SALEM — Prosecutors are still mulling whether to go to a grand jury to present the case against a Salem woman charged with the drunken-driving death of a Danvers teen.
Angelique Griffin, 25, is charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving drunk in a crash on Boston Street in Salem that killed Dillon Renard, 19.
A state police accident reconstruction report for the June crash is still pending.
During a brief hearing in Salem District Court yesterday, Griffin’s lawyer and the prosecutor told the judge that the case is still being reviewed by prosecutors to determine whether it will remain in the district court or be presented to the grand jury for possible indictment. An indictment would move the case to Salem Superior Court, where Griffin could face a longer penalty if convicted.
However, district courts also have jurisdiction over vehicular homicide cases, and some cases do remain at that level.
