Roberto Salamanca
From Arizona Sun
Roberto Salamanca, a 20-year-old undocumented immigrant raised in Flagstaff, was found guilty of manslaughter Tuesday in the drunk driving collision that killed 20-year-old Kyle Wible last summer.
Prosecutors had charged the defendant with the more serious crime of second-degree murder. The verdict, which carries a presumptive sentence of at least five fewer years than second-degree murder, brought immediate tears to Wible’s family and supporters.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 20. After serving his sentence, Salamanca likely will be deported.
Salamanca was drunk and driving without a valid license at 80 mph last August when he attempted to pass two cars on East Route 66 near downtown and lost control. Salamanca’s GMC Yukon collided head-on with Wible’s Nissan Sentra, crushing the smaller car in front of a local mortuary.
Wible was the oldest of 11 brothers and sisters and his father is a retired Coconino County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
“At the heart of this case is a great loss suffered by the Wible family, but also by the community,” Deputy Coconino County Attorney Jonathan Mosher ….MORE

Richard Smith,
the Grand Marshal of this year’s Morris County St. Patrick’s Parade, has been charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident after crashing his vehicle earlier this month.
Morristown Police Patrol Officers Robert Iozzia and Carmen Caponegro were en route to investigate a reported hit-and-run involving a parked vehicle on Sunset Place on Aug. 10 when Morris Township Sgt. Stanley Witczak radioed that he had pulled over a vehicle with heavy front end damage at Rosemilt Place and Olmstead Road.
The Honda Pilot was missing a headlight and its horn was going off when Sgt. Witczak observed it approaching the township on Morris Avenue. Both air bags were deployed at the time of the 11:42 pm stop.
When Officer Iozzia arrived at the scene, Richard, 62, was standing on the sidewalk, “swaying back and forth.” The officer asked him if he had been in the vicinity of Sunset Place and had crashed into any vehicles recently….MORE

Laura Rellins…from A student in college to learning the law of the jungle in prison…her father says her victim
that she killed was “asking for it”…

From WHSV
HARRISONBURG, Va — Laura Rellins will go to prison for three years and six months. Her father says the man she killed is partly to blame for this accident.
Her parents both took the witness stand today and they said their daughter was a straight-A student in high school, but when she got to college it all went downhill from there. Rellins admitted Tuesday that she has a serious alcohol problem and needs help. Now, she will spend three years and six months for killing Ricky Dean Park in a drunken crash.
Alycia Eldridge, the prosecutor in this case, said that amount of time will never bring justice to Parker’s family.
“I think that to put any number on when you lose a loved one is very difficult. I think that I’m happy, like I said, that the case is over and that she was found guilty and sentenced appropriately,” said Eldridge.
Parker was driving a moped along Route 42 when Rellins hit and killed him. Rellins father blamed Parker for driving a moped at night and said in court Tuesday that Parker was asking to get killed.
