The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 43-year-old William James English with his fifth DUI offense, driving under suspension, providing false information to police, open container violation, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop for a blue light.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2005 Honda Civic, occupied by two people, was northbound on Solley Road when it crossed the centerline, left the roadway and struck a tree and street sign.

The female passenger was found with severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was uninjured but suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to Northern District
