La Quinta Police charged James Tucker with being DUI-druggie coward who hit and ran from crash

LA QUINTA, CALIF.  – 06/12/2016  –  According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Gaw, on Friday, June 10, 2016, La Quinta Police Officers responded to the 52000 Block of Avenida Martinez in La Quinta, regarding a single car hit and run traffic collision, involving a possibly intoxicated driver.  A witness observed a white 2006 Ford F-150 swerving in the roadway.  The vehicle lost control and collided with a stucco wall at the roundabout at Calle Sinaloa and Eisenhower Dr., and then left the scene.  The witness followed the vehicle to Avenida Martinez, where the driver entered a residence.  The driver of the F-150, James Tucker, age 53 of La Quinta, was contacted and detained for the investigation of the Hit and Run.  Tucker sustained minor cuts and abrasions in the collision and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The investigation revealed that controlled substances were a factor in this collision.  Tucker was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested at the scene.  Charges will be filed with the District Attorney.  The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact La Quinta Police Department at 760-863-8990, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).

DUI Saturation Patrol Nets 1 Arrest

Menifee, CAMenifee Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol on Friday, 06/10/16, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.  High visibility DUI enforcement efforts have a deterrent effect lowering the incidents of impaired driving and will continue thanks to special funding for extra officers to patrol for this deadly crime.

This DUI saturation patrol resulted in the following:

  • 11 –  Vehicle enforcement stops
  • 4 –  Driver was given field sobriety tests
  • 1 – Driver arrested for alcohol impairment above .08%
  • 8 –  Citations issued

Driver’s License Checkpoint Results

Norco, CA – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department/Jurupa Valley Station/Norco Office conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on June 11, 2016, at Hidden Valley Pkwy. and Corona Ave.  between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

DUI/Driver’s License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries.  A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drug impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

 

 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.  Ninety Percent of California drivers approve of checkpoints.

DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint results:

  • 735 Vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.
  • 673 Vehicles were screened.
  • 3 Drivers were given field sobriety tests.
  • 2 DUI-Alcohol suspects were arrested.
  • 2 Drivers were cited for driving while unlicensed.
  • 6 Drivers were cited for driving while their driver’s license was suspended.
  • 7 Vehicles were towed.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department/Jurupa Valley Station/Norco Office will be conducting additional DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint operations throughout the year, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.
