Lakeport man arrested for Evading Officer’s and driving under the Influence after motorcycle crash.

LAKEPORT, CALIF. (July 11, 2015) – On July 11th at approximately 1:32 A.M., Lakeport Police Sergeant Gary Basor attempted to stop a motorcyclist who was traveling North on North Main Street at a high rate of speed after leaving the Clearlake Club bar in Lakeport on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. As Basor was behind the motorcycle with his emergency lights activated, the driver turned on North High Street, then 20th Street where it accelerated and continued onto Hartley Street. The motorcycle continued West on Boggs Ln. traveling at speeds of over 50 M.P.H in the residential area, failing to stop at stop signs along the way.

Two additional Lakeport Officer’s joined the pursuit when the motorcycle came down 20th Street and turned south onto Hartley Street. Once Officer attempted to stop the motorcycle by blocking its path on Hartley Street but it failed to stop andcontinued past the Officer. The motorcycle then traveled West on Clearlake Avenue and failed to negotiate the ninety degree turn at Pool Street and crashed over the embankment.

The Officer’s went down the embankment where they saw the wrecked motorcycle and the driver fleeing on foot through the thick brush towards Mellor Dr. The Officer’s caught up with the driver, identified as Lakeport resident, Michael William Lockett and detained him. Medical staff from Lakeport Fire Department was summoned and later transported Lockett to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for medical clearance.

Through their investigation, Lockett admitted to have been drinking at the Clearlake Club Bar and also to being under the influence of Opiates pain killers.

Lockett was arrested and booked at the Lake County Jail charged with Felony, Evading a Police Officer with disregard for public safety and Misdemeanor Driving under the Influence.
