California: Lorenzo Renteria Lopez – a one man demolition derby booked on hit and run and DUI

05/03/2014 — According to Riverside County Calif. Sheriff’s Department, at 6:48 PM, on May 1, 2014, Sheriff’s Dispatch received calls of a possible intoxicated driver that had struck several cars, on Hwy. 111 and in a private property parking lot north of Hwy. 111, in La Quinta. The suspect attempted to park his vehicle in the private property parking lot, and tried to leave the scene on foot.  Witnesses kept the suspect under observation.  La Quinta Police Deputies arrived on scene, along with an Indio Police Officer, and they detained Lorenzo Renteria Lopez, age 30 of La Quinta.   The investigation revealed Renteria had initially struck a vehicle on Hwy. 111 in the city of Indio, causing minor damage.  Renteria then drove away from that scene, entered the private property parking lot in the 79000 block of Hwy. 111, in the city of La Quinta, and in doing so, struck two other vehicles, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Indio Police assisted with the investigation and completed the initial hit and run collision investigation that occurred in their city.  La Quinta deputies completed the balance of the collision investigations, and the driving under the influence of alcohol investigation.   No one was injured in the collisions.  Suspect Renteria was transported to a local hospital for a precautionary  medical examination, and then booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio.
