California: Yonna Dovone Jones of Oceanside charged with DUI and hit and run after crashing into four vehicles

CARLSBAD, CALIF. 01/05/2016 — According to Carlsbad Police on December 19, at 8:51 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Department received a call of a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Palomar Airport Road and College Drive.

The reporting party followed the vehicle described as a Toyota Camry east on Palomar Airport Road. The driver of the Camry turned off their headlights and continued east on Palomar Airport Road.

Police officers located the Camry at the intersection of El Camino Real and Palomar Airport Road. Officers activated their overhead lights and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The Camry fled eastbound at a high rate of speed and officers immediately cancelled the pursuit due to weather and roadway conditions.

The Camry continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and collided with four vehicles at the intersection of Melrose Drive and Palomar Airport Road.

Two people were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver and only occupant of the 1999 Toyota Camry was identified as 24-year-old Yonna Dovone Jones of Oceanside.

Jones was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for felony-DUI, Hit and Run, and felony-failure to yield causing injuries.

Cadillac Driver Collides with Three Bicyclists

On December 2, at 10:15 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a report of a traffic collision involving a motor vehicle and multiple bicyclists in the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard.

Officers responded to the scene and found that a 1998 Cadillac driven by a 36-year-old male had collided with three bicyclists.

City of Carlsbad Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical treatment to the injured bicyclists. One of the bicyclists was transported via helicopter, and the other two were transported by ambulance to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the Cadillac was driving southbound in the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. The bicyclists appear to have been riding southbound in the bicycle lane also in the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. The Cadillac drove into the bicycle lane and collided with the three bicyclists.

The driver of the 1998 Cadillac has been identified as a 36-year-old male from Escondido. The driver was arrested at the scene of the collision. Alcohol or drug intoxication is suspected to be involved in the collision.
