MYRTLE BEACH —  A Myrtle Beach man was charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with a vehicle crash Wednesday night that killed a woman as she drove along Prestwick Club Drive, according to authorities.

Gabriel Lee Gratto, 28, of Myrtle Beach was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 12:13 a.m. Thursday and is being held there pending a bond hearing, according to jail records.

Gratto is charged with felony DUI in connection with the crash that happened about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Secondary Highway 394, said Sgt. Bob Beres with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The limousine driver who allegedly was drunk when he drove 23 teenagers in a party bus to the Oswego East High School prom Saturday night says he is innocent and that mechanical issues with the vehicle were at fault for his erratic driving.

DENVER — A Littleton police officer who died after being hit by an alleged drunken driver was laid to rest Friday morning.

The funeral for Officer Kevin Denner was held at the Mission Hills Church in Littleton.  About 650 people attended the service.

Denner was riding his motorcycle off-duty Monday when he was hit by a car in Aurora. Police said Denner died at the scene.

Jemal Abdelkader Dawed, 37, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges including driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicular homicide, careless driving and failure to yield the right of way.

A Billings man who witnesses said was driving a van that was ”swerving  all over the road” was arraigned Friday on what prosecutors said is his fifth  drunken-driving offense.

Joseph Allan Seward, 45, appeared before District Judge Mary Jane Knisely and  pleaded not guilty to felony DUI. His bond was set at $10,000 after a prosecutor  said Seward was previously convicted of  DUI in 1990, 2000, and twice  in 2002.

Seward was arrested April 29 after witnesses called 911 to report a  Chevrolet Venture “swerving all over the road and cutting off other  drivers” on King Avenue West.

LA VERNE  — Two California Highway Patrol officers Saturday were recovering from minor injuries after their cruiser was struck allegedly by a suspected drunken driver in La Verne.

The crash happened in a construction zone on the Foothill (210) Freeway near Foothill Boulevard.

Two CHP officers were seated in the cruiser in a coned off area in the westbound lanes of the thoroughfare at the time of the crash.
