A Jack Daniels whisky bottle discarded by the defendant was found at the scene and investigators estimated Todd’s blood alcohol level was .159 at the time of the accident. The minor, who had just finished the last day of his sophomore year at North Valley High School, was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

Chase was allegedly driving a Mack truck westbound on Highway 6 near milepost #156 when the construction pumper truck crossed the center line at 5:21 pm and struck a White Chevy van driven by Ordonez-Morales.

The officer saw the suspect vehicle driving away northbound and stopped it at Cameron Avenue. The area where the collision occurred was then checked and the male victim was found lying on the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
