Maine: Christopher M. Bennett charged with DUI manslaughter in death of party pal, Anthony Ciccone

A 20-year-old Rhode Island man allegedly drove 50 miles over the speed limit and crashed into a utility pole Sunday morning, killing the passenger in his car, a Massachusetts man, according to Biddeford police.
Police identified the passenger as Anthony Ciccone, 20, of Pepperell, and the driver as Christopher M. Bennett, 20, of Johnston, R.I.
At 12:39 a.m., police received a call from security personnel at University of New England reporting two men who “were reportedly intoxicated and trying to forcibly enter a residence hall dorm room,” Biddeford police said in a statement. UNE security personnel attempted to stop the two men from driving but were unsuccessful, according to the statement.
Bennett and Ciccone were not students at UNE, but police said they were reportedly visiting friends.
“We have no indication they were drinking at UNE,” Thomas White, spokesman for the University of New England said in an email.
Biddeford Police officers spotted a dark-colored Ford Explorer,which matched the description that UNE officials had provided, driving at a high speed westbound on Pool Street,….MORE

BRUSHFORK — A Mercer County man was arrested on a charge of DUI with death with recklessness following a two-vehicle wreck on the Falls Mills Road (Route 123) late Tuesday night.
Eric Perdue, 31, of Brushfork was arraigned Wednesday on the charges before a Mercer County magistrate and was released on a $5,000 bail, according to Deputy M.S. Horne of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Horne, Sherri Watkins, 41, also of Brushfork, was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt west on Route 123 when the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, traveling east, started to yawl, turned up on its side and ran head-on into the Cobalt. ….MORE

Maryland: impaired mom, Tabitha Dobrzynski, killed Sophia Rose “Rosie Dobrzynski near Ocean City

SALISBURY, MD. — A 38-year-old New Kensington woman is charged with homicide for driving while impaired in a one-vehicle wreck that killed her 11-year-old daughter in Salisbury, Md.
Tabitha Dobrzynski of 620 Constitution Boulevard is charged with negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle, life-threatening injury by motor vehicle involving drugs, life-threatening injury by motor vehicle involving controlled dangerous substances and drug possession. She also faces six traffic charges, including four driving while impaired charges.
Maryland State Police responded to the single-vehicle accident on the Route 13 Bypass around Salisbury, about 30 miles west of Ocean City, at 2:38 p.m. Sunday.

Maryland: Eastern Shore law officers gear up for crackdown on drunk drivers

EASTON — Bryan Ross proposed to his girlfriend, Jennifer Edwards, on New Years Eve in 2007. Three days later, a drunk driving accident claimed his life, along with that of Edward’s 4-year-old daughter, Emma Grace.
The head-on collision happened in Rock Hall, and killed the 24-year-old drunk driver instantly. Ross fought for his life for 45 minutes; Emma fought for 8r hours. Edwards spent five days at a trauma center.
Once released, she had to plan and attend two funerals, figure out how to survive and explain to Emma’s then 6-year-old sister, Olivia, who was not in the car, that it was OK to think about Emma.
“It’s an emotional battle that happens every single day for us,” Edwards said Wednesday morning at the kickoff for Maryland’s Toward Zero Deaths campaign. “All three were taken for a senseless act.”  ….MORE

Virginia: Richard E. Lawrence charged with felony manslaughter in addition to DUI in crash that killed Mary Hoover

HANOVER, Va. – Richard E. Lawrence, Jr. now faces an additional charge, felony aggravated involuntary manslaughter, after the fatal crash that occurred in June on Pole Green Road, near Lee Davis Road.
The crash, which resulted in the fatality of Mary Hoover, was a head-on collision between 1999 Saab and a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. When emergency responders arrived, the Saab was on fire.
Lawrence, 56, of the 7400 block of Newtown Road in St. Stephens Church, was charged initially with Driving Under the Influence.
Four victims from the Chevy SUV were taken to VCU Medical Center; an adult female and three juveniles; ages two, six and seven. …MORE
