MILLSBORO, DEL. – Delaware State police report that a 42-year-old man has died as a result of the injuries he sustained in an January 17, 2016, crash in Long Neck, Del.

Joseph E. Deldeo Sr., 42 of Millsboro, was a left rear seat passenger in the 2003 Saturn Ion and was not properly restrained during the crash. He was initially transported to Beebe Healthcare before being flown to Christiana Medical Center where he died Feb. 8, 2016.

The 21-year-old female of Millsboro has since been released from the hospital.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and additional charges may be forthcoming.

The initial investigation determined that the crash occurred Sunday, January 17, 2016, at approximately 12:14 a.m., as Dillon Davis, 23, of Millsboro, was operating a 2003 Saturn Ion and was traveling in a northbound direction on Long Neck Road while approaching Bay Road, Millsboro. Davis then lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to round a curve. The Saturn then left the roadway and struck a tree where it came to rest.

Deldeo, as well as a 21-year-old female passenger in Davis’ car, were both removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Medical Center. They were then both flown by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where they are being treated for serious injuries.

Dillon Davis, who was not injured in the crash, was transported to Troop 7 where a DUI investigation ensued. Davis was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, two counts of Vehicular Assault 1st Degree, Possession of Marijuana (3 grams), and three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned at JP Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $6501.00 secured bail.
