Fort Lauderdale Police reports DUI investigation underway in crash that killed Sondroz Steven Olivert

The deceased driver of the green Nissan in this incident has been identified as Sondroz Steven Olivert, B/M, 01/11/1981; a resident of Sunrise.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Friday, April 29th at approximately 8:58 PM. The crash occurred at East Oakland Park Boulevard and North Federal Highway. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a black 2016 Kia was traveling westbound on East Oakland Park Boulevard approaching North Federal Highway. The Kia struck the rear of a green 1996 Nissan that was awaiting the traffic signal to travel west on Oakland Park Boulevard from Federal Highway; causing life-threatening injuries to the two occupants of the Nissan. Following this collision, the Kia also struck two additional vehicles; however, these collisions did not result in serious injuries to any of the occupants of the two vehicles. The initially struck Nissan finally collided with a grey 2016 Chrysler, after with the Nissan came to rest.

The driver of the black Kia which began this series of crashes exited his vehicle and fled the scene; however, was subsequently located and transported to Imperial Point Medical center with non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants of the Nissan were transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where the driver was pronounced deceased. The passenger still remains in critical condition at this time.

A DUI investigation has been initiated and this remains an active investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
