Troopers Arrest Leesville Man for Fourth Offense DWI after Crash near DeRidder

BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA – A Leesville man was arrested for fourth offense DWI this afternoon after he caused a crash that sent the other driver and two children to the hospital.

On September 16, 2016, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 171 at Louisiana Highway 112 east of DeRidder. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 29-year-old Erica Fowler of DeRidder was in the southbound left turn lane of US 171 preparing to make a left turn onto LA 112. A 1993 Honda Prelude driven by 48-year-old Brian Lee Hayes of Leesville was traveling south in the right lane of US 171 when the vehicle he was driving traveled from the right lane and across the left lane before sideswiping the Malibu in the turn lane.

Fowler and two children in her vehicle were transported to Beauregard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Hayes was not injured.

Drug impairment on the part of Hayes is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Hayes was arrested and charged with fourth-offense DWI and improper lane usage. He was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail. The crash remains under investigation.
