Maryland: DUI driver struck a Montgomery County police officer who was directing traffic around crash scene

SILVER SPRING, MD. — 07/02/2014 — A Montgomery County Police Officer was struck by a vehicle on the Beltway Tuesday afternoon by a suspected drunk driver.

The officer was directing traffic after a multiple-vehicle crash near Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring when he was struck by a 58-year-old Baltimore man.

He then stopped the car and attempted to remove the driver, who was later arrested for DUI and failure to pay attention. Sources told News4 the man’s blood alcohol content was .22.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
