According to Las Vegas Metro Police a 1998 BMW, driven by 24-year-old Jonathan Donner, was traveling west on E. Charleston Blvd at the intersection with S. Main St.
A 2011 Chevrolet, driven by a 53-year-old male, was traveling south on S. Main St at the intersection with E. Charleston Blvd.
The Chevrolet was a Tour Bus with four passengers. A 2010 Ford, driven by 32-year-old Sean Poe, was stopped in the right eastbound travel lane west of the intersection. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the BMW entered the intersection against a red light at a high rate of speed.
The front of the BMW struck the left side of the Chevrolet. The force of the impact overturned the Chevrolet. The BMW rotated counterclockwise toward the southwest corner of the intersection. As the BMW slid to a stop, the rear of the BMW struck the front of the stopped Ford. The BMW and the Chevrolet caught fire.
Three of the Chevrolet occupants were able to escape the burning vehicle and transported to UMC hospital with serious injuries. The two remaining occupants were pronounced dead on scene.
Jonathan Donner was extricated from the burning BMW by a witness and a responding Police Officer before he was transported to UMC hospital. Donner was suspected of driving under the influence and charged with two counts of DUI resulting in death and three counts of DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm.
These were the 67th and 68th traffic related fatalities in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department jurisdiction for the year 2015. The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Accident Investigation Section.
