The scene in a Greensboro courtroom was painfully emotional Thursday as a young woman learned she’ll spend at least seven years in prison.
“Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” 21-year-old Amanda Sperduti of Winston-Salem cried.
Judge Edgar Gregory was not lenient in sentencing, giving her seven to 12 years without parole for three counts of aggravated felony death by motor vehicle.
Sperduti didn’t mean to kill anyone, and she insisted in court she doesn’t fully remember what happened. Her defense attorneys even tried to suggest she wasn’t the one driving her mother’s car when it ran off Fairgrove Church Road in Browns Summit at high speed, striking a tree.
