ANDERSON, SC (05/08/2016) – South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers said a man is charged with driving under the influence in a crash that killed one and injured a child in Anderson County Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on Pearman Dairy Road near Getsinger Road, just down the road from Westside High School, according to Coroner Greg Shore.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 9 a.m.

Troopers said the driver of a 1996 Ford utility bucket truck crossed through the median and struck a 2003 Chevy SUV head-on. The driver of the Chevy was entrapped in the vehicle and succumbed to injuries at the scene.

A 4-year-old passenger in the Chevy, Pressley’s grandchild, was seat belted in a booster seat. The child was transported via EMS to Anmed Hospital. Family members said the boy suffered a broken hip, broken nose, and head trauma.

Shore identified the woman as Loretta Pressley.

“It sounded like a big bomb went off. Really loud,and then smoke was coming from the truck,” witness April Murphy said .

Just after hearing the boom, Murphy said she heard crying and found the child in the back seat of the car. She said she held the child’s hand until EMS arrived.

The driver of the Ford, 29-year-old Jonathan Edward Hamby, has been charged with felony DUI involving death, felony DUI involving great bodily injury, and driving under suspension.

During a bond hearing Thursday, a judge advised Hamby that, if found guilty, he could face up to 45 years in prison. The judge set bond at $40,000. ….MORE
