Multiple DUI offender Mark Dahir was transferred from prison to the work release program recently. Dahir’s defense attorney says no favors were called in.Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine wasn’t happy about it, but it was ultimately up to the department of corrections after the sentencing.
Convicted on previous DUI’s, 37-year-old Mark Dahir spent a short time in prison, went through rehab programs, or may have also received probation. His 4th conviction in June brought a sentence by Judge J. Patrick Mullen of 2-3 years in prison. Since his arrest in March, Dahir has spent about 6 months behind bars, which includes 100 days since the sentencing with credit, before being evaluated by the state and transferred to work release. ….MORE

OMAHA, Neb. —
A bank vice president told a judge Wednesday he’s learned a hard lesson and is ready to take responsibility for being a repeat offender of driving under the influence.
Mark Dahir, 38, appeared before a Douglas County District Court judge for the sentencing of a third DUI offense from August.
Prosecutors had lowered the charge from a fourth offense to a third. That was before police arrested Dahir, accusing him of being high on meth when they said he caused an injury crash in February. ….MORE

Prosecutors have been tough on felony DUI cases, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Friday, but those prosecutions are about to get tougher.  Kleine said he is reviewing what he called his office’s “occasional” practice of reducing DUIs from felonies to misdemeanors in return for a defendant successfully completing inpatient treatment.  Kleine said he fears that Mark Dahir, a man now facing his seventh DUI arrest but who never has been convicted of a felony, and others might be manipulating matters by entering treatment to avoid getting a felony conviction and the prison time and license revocation that go with it…..MORE
