Illinois: Brock L. Meersman charged with killing pal while driving stoned; stop sign not observed, Brandon Haley likely not grateful to be dead…

PEKIN —A Pekin man who was driving a car in which a passenger was killed in an accident was indicted last week by a Tazewell County grand jury.
Brock L. Meerseman, 20, of 203 Harriett St. is charged with aggravated driving under the influence and disregarding a stop sign.
He faces a prison term of three to 14 years if convicted on the DUI charge because the Oct. 21 accident resulted in the death of Brandon Haley, 19, of Pekin.
According to court and police records, a Tazewell sheriff’s deputy discovered Meerseman’s heavily damaged car just before 8 a.m.
The car was about 50 feet off the road in a field near the intersection of Wagonseller and Hickory Grove roads southwest of Pekin.

Charges have been filed against the Far South Side man who was driving a sport utility vehicle when he crashed into a pickup truck on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Saturday, killing the pickup’s driver, police said.
Tyrone Allen Stokes, 42, of the 10200 block of South Carpenter Street, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in the death of a man identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Phillip Briner, 21, of Crown Point, Ind., Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.
Stokes was ordered held in lieu of $450,000 bail in a midday hearing in Cook County Bond Court today.
Stokes submitted to standard field sobriety tests administered by troopers on the scene and his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.106, more than the legal limit of 0.08, according to a police report.

(Nov. 4, 2012) — PETERSBURG — A Petersburg man was hospitalized and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Thursday night after crashing into a wooded area near Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site, according to the Illinois State Police.
John Kiper, 51, was driving his 1994 Chevy Silverado pickup west on the Athens Blacktop shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday when he didn’t stop a stop sign at Illinois Route 97 and drove about 150 feet into the woods, state police said.

Illinois State Police on Sunday identified the driver in a fatal crash on Interstate 55-70 and released details of an unrelated one-vehicle crash on Interstate 64.
Jason M. Kutz, 27, of Highland, was the driver in a car that left the roadway and struck a bridge support on Friday near Collinsville.
Kutz has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, with the possibility of additional charges, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Craig Campbell said Sunday night.
Kutz suffered critical injuries and was taken to St. Louis University Hospital. An update of his condition was not immediately available.
