On December 28, 2012 at approximately 12:38 p.m., NY State Police patrol units patrolling the Southern State Parkway, Suffolk County NY, responded to numerous calls of a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner travelling southbound on the Sagtikos Parkway just north of the Southern State Parkway.
Motorist had called and reported the vehicle, a red Chevrolet Cavalier, had entered the Southern State Parkway traveling westbound driving all over the road and blocking traffic. Several marked police units responded and made visual contact with the vehicle in the vicinity of exit 39S and attempted to stop it.
However the driver had other plans.
Using emergency lights and sirens the Troopers observed the vehicle drive repeatedly across all three lanes of traffic in a reckless manner forcing all other motorist to stay behind to avoid a collision.
The driver refused to comply to the Troopers attempts to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued with the car travelling at speeds between 35 and 60 miles per hour weaving across all three lanes. As Troopers positioned their patrol vehicles to attempt to make a stop the driver accelerated and struck the patrol vehicle in the rear.
After an initial impact with a marked police unit the Chevrolet entered the grass center median, struck the guiderail, bounces off, re-enters the roadway and strikes two patrol vehicles, several times, in an attempt to avoid being stopped.
Troopers managed to bring the Cavalier to a stop only to find its female operator, KIM T Trebing, age 44, of Deer Park, NY incoherent and unable to speak with them at the scene.
