An off-duty San Jose police officer was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving this week after she drove her pickup truck off the road and crashed badly enough that she was rushed by helicopter to the hospital, authorities said Friday.
Elizabeth Robbins faces misdemeanor DUI charges after she flipped her vehicle and slid down a hill Wednesday night in a rural residential area of east Morgan Hill.
The 3½-year SJPD veteran was off-duty when she drove her Dodge truck off Holiday Drive, where it overturned and slid down an embankment near East Dunne Avenue at 8:30 p.m., police said. She was the only person in the truck and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. ….MORE

A faulty breathalyzer used by San Jose police to arrest 865 DUI suspects could lead to drivers walking free — even if they were drunk
behind the wheel, authorities revealed Tuesday.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said it would undertake a special monthlong review to determine how many of the cases it would drop
because San Jose police officers used the Alco-Sensor V breathalyzer as part of their field sobriety tests. The breathalyzers — one of the methods used by
officers to determine whether to arrest DUI suspects — may have shown incorrect readings because of a manufacturer’s error that can cause condensation to build

Three San Jose police officers were injured early Friday morning when an alleged drunk driver bowled his car into the back of a patrol car at the scene of a downtown shooting. A former San Jose police officer who was at the center of a drunken driving cover-up scandal is now on the hook for close to $250,000 after a civil trial.
A jury on Wednesday sided against the former officer, Sandra Woodall, 42, whose Cadillac Escalade careened into several cars in 2008, injuring Jessica Cardona. After the accident, Woodall was reportedly belligerent and disoriented and openly admitted that she had been drinking and was just out of rehab.
