Texas: Austin Police will seek warrant to take the blood of those who refuse to give breath test

Extended No Refusal Statistics, week 1

During the first week, there were 118 DWI arrests.

The Austin Police Department is conducting an extended no refusal program from Friday, August 21 through Thursday, September 3, 2015 which will then be followed by a Labor Day DWI initiative. Below are the results from the week of Friday, August 21 through Thursday, August 27, 2015 between the hours 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

During the first week of the Extended No Refusal Initiative, there were 118 DWI arrests.

Total DWI arrests – 118
Number of search warrant blood draws – 60
Number of Consent Blood Samples – 13
Breath Samples – 45

“No refusal” means that should a suspect refuse to provide a breath or blood sample, and the officer has evidence of impairment, the officer shall apply to a judge requesting a search warrant for a blood sample.
