Officers with the Portsmouth Police Department Strategic Traffic Unit are continuing their investigation into a vehicle crash that has left one person dead and another injured.

At approximately 9:17 p.m. June 26, 2017, an officer on patrol notified police communications of an accident with injuries in the 1900 block of Deep Creek Boulevard.

According to traffic investigators, a UHAUL truck traveling on Deep Creek Boulevard, near Lincoln Street collided with an unoccupied parked utility truck causing the passenger of the vehicle to be ejected.  The passenger, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.  The driver of the UHAUL vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The passenger, Jermaine L. Bryant, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.  The driver of the UHAUL vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Jamie Bryant has been charged and booked into the Portsmouth City Jail.

Evidence led investigators to believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash and Jamie was arrested and charged with Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving while Suspended (3rd Offense).
