A local man is facing DUI manslaughter charges after two people were killed in a crash near Staunton. 60-year-old Kenneth L. Barber of Crozet was charged after a two-car collision at around 6:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 250 and Brand Station Road in Augusta County.

State Police say Barber failed to stop for a traffic signal and hit a car in which two people from Waynesboro were killed. They’ve been identified as 44-year-old Sandra L. Martin and her daughter, 12-year-old Haylee Martin.

According to state police, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was westbound on U.S. 250 attempting to make a left turn onto Brand Station Road. The Pontiac was hit on the passenger’s side by a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, police said.

The Suburban was traveling east on U.S. 250 and failed to stop for the red light, police said.

The driver and passenger in the Pontiac both died at the scene and state police are still in the process of notifying next of kin.

The driver and adult male passenger in the Suburban were taken to Augusta Health for minor injuries.

The driver of the Suburban, Kenneth L. Barber, 60, of Crozet, was later taken to Middle River Regional Jail and charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter. ….MORE
