Virginia: State Police report Daniel Blake Brinkley was lying on highway when struck and killed; alcohol a factor

On Friday, April 22, 2016, Virginia State Police were called to investigate a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian resulting in a fatality.

Police reports that the incident occurred at approximately 12:28 AM on westbound Route 227 (Old Virginia Road), west of Route 227 (Grave Avenue) in Middlesex County. A 1991 Mazda was traveling westbound on Route 227 when the driver, David S. Cockrell, struck a pedestrian lying in the westbound lanes. The pedestrian, 39-year-old, Daniel Blake Brinkley, was taken to Walter Reed Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver, Mr. Cockrell, was not charged in the accident. Notifications to family members of the deceased have been made. Alcohol was a factor in the accident.
