DUI charges pending against Melissa Grimaldo with two babies in highway flip-over

Melissa Grimaldo, 23, of Yakima, Washington, faces DUI charges after flipping a 2003 GMC Envoy onto its roof with a toddler on board, child okay.  Her passenger Cristen Garcia Gomez, 26, also of Yakima, was injured and both Grimaldo and Gomez were taken to Kadlec Hospital for the treatment of their injuries.  A two-year-old boy and a twelve-month-old infant, both of whom were restrained when the vehicle left the road and flipped onto the roof, were not injured.

Washington State Trooper N. Dawson reports that the GMC Envoy was westbound on K82 at milepost 92, about four miles west of Benton, Washington, at 3:46 pm on April 28, 2017, when it left the roadway on the right side and came to a rest on its rooftop. The trooper reports that DUI charges are pending.

The couple had obtained a marriage license in May of 2016 in Yakima.
