According to Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin, on October 7, 2015, night shift patrol Sergeants were led to the recovery of two stolen flat screen televisions and the arrest of two men on charges of burglary in the second degree.
At approximately 04:00 on Wednesday morning, Sergeant Chad Smith was on routine patrol on Highway 36 East in the Somerville area. He saw a suspicious vehicle pull from the Living Free Recovery home, located on the 1500 block of Highway 36, East Hartselle. The vehicle drove erratically and at high speed, trying to avoid the Deputy. He also observed there was no tag displayed on the suspicious vehicle. He performed a traffic stop, having to follow the vehicle for several miles before it stopped. It was occupied by two men.

In consideration of the circumstances, Sgt. Smith conducted a felony stop, which allows him greater control over potentially violent suspects. They were secured and identified. One suspect had an active warrant. Both had been drinking. Sgt. Smith then saw two large flat screen televisions in the vehicle. He dispatched a deputy to the Living Free Recovery home to see if the property had been stolen from there. The Deputy was in fact able to ascertain that the television was stolen from that location, and also identify potential witnesses.
