Police say alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash in Fort Payne. The driver is now facing multiple felonies.

Fort Payne police say a Jeep Wrangler crashed into a parked log truck in the 900 block of Glenn Boulevard Monday evening.

Kimberly Michelle Beattie, 20, of Scottsboro was a passenger in the Jeep. She was airlifted to Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she was pronounced dead.

The Jeep’s driver was Deana M. Betz, 22, of Fort Payne. She suffered minor injuries in the wreck. The truck driver was not injured.

Betz was charged with DUI immediately following the wreck. Investigators added a manslaughter charge following Beattie’s death. …MORE
