2013-09-11 — Alcohol is believed to have played a role in Monday night’s crash on Potrero Road that left two people dead.

The deceased have been identified as Aimee Hoff, 23, of Thousand Oaks, and Michael Hatcher, 26, of Newbury Park, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Both are graduates of Newbury Park High School.

At around 11:20 p.m. last night the driver of a 2005 Infiniti carrying three passengers failed to negotiate a left turn and collided with multiple pieces of construction equipment—including a large John Deere backhoe—that were parked on the south shoulder of the rural road southeast of Newbury Park, police said.

The impact caused fatal injuries to both the male right front passenger and the female right rear passenger, according to CHP.

The left rear passenger, a 21-year-old female from Newbury Park, was transported to Los Robles Medical Center to be treated for moderate injuries.

The driver, 23-year-old Collin Ronald Powell of Newbury Park, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Los Robles. Following a CHP investigation, Powell was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. ….MORE
