On Thursday, December 25, 2014, about 7:04 PM, officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to a fatal traffic collision, at the intersection of Gerald Ford Drive and Bob Hope Drive, in Rancho Mirage.
The investigation determined the driver of a 2004 Chevy Suburban, Kenneth Revell, age 33 of Cathedral City, was driving eastbound on Gerald Ford Drive when he ran a red light and collided into a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, traveling southbound on Bob Hope Drive. The Chevy Suburban continued across Bob Hope Drive and struck a traffic signal pole, causing the Suburban to flip on its driver’s side.
The Hyundai Santa Fe then collided into a Volkswagen Beetle that was traveling northbound on Bob Hope Drive. Â The 72-year-old female driver of the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle sustained major injuries and was immediately transported to a regional medical center. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Â The driver and passenger in the Hyundai Santa Fe were not injured during the collision. Next of kin has not yet been notified.
Kenneth Revell was arrested and transported to Riverside County jail in Indio where he was booked for felony DUI. Â It was determined intoxication may have been a factor in this collision.
