INDIO — A murder charge was filed Wednesday against a Palm Springs man suspected of fatally striking a 70-year-old bicyclist while driving under the influence in Cathedral City.

Brandon Royce Melton, 27, is also charged with DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death or injury.

Arraignment was set for Wednesday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, but then delayed at the request of Melton’s attorney.

It was rescheduled to May 3.

Melton was arrested around 9:10 p.m. Saturday, about an hour and 15 minutes after allegedly fleeing the scene of the crash in the 67-300 block of East Palm Canyon Drive.
