California: Coachella Police charge DUI driver Frank Arechiga with mowing down mom and baby in crosswalk

COACHELLA, CALIF. –  What a bozo!  Police say an alleged DUI driver ran over a mother and her baby while they were in a crosswalk.

According to Sgt. John Clark of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, on Tuesday, October 06, 2015 at 7:17 P.M. the Coachella Police Department responded to the area of Avenue 52 x Douma reference a major injury traffic collision.  The initial investigation revealed a Honda Accord was traveling westbound Avenue 52.  A mother and her infant son, who was in a stroller, were walking across Avenue 52 to Bagdouma Park.

The pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk with the flashing pedestrian lights activated, when they were hit. The mother sustained moderate injuries and infant sustained minor injuries.

Both were taken to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Frank Arechiga, 41 years old of La Quinta was evaluated and placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol/ and or drugs.  Arechiga was taken to a local hospital for precaution prior to being booked for felony driving under the influence causing major injuries.
