DUI prior offender critical after crackup

05/29/2014 — On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 03:44 AM, Officers from the Perris Police Department responded to a single car rollover at the 700 block of Mountain Ave. The driver and sole occupant, Brian Luft of Lake Elsinore, was found trapped inside his vehicle with major injuries.  Luft had to be extricated by Cal Fire using the “Jaws of life.”  Luft was transported to a local hospital for his injuries where he remains.  Luft’s next of kin was notified.

The Perris Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded and assumed the investigation.  Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.  At the time of the collision, Luft was driving with a suspended driver’s license from a prior DUI conviction.  This collision is still under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call Deputy Heuer or Officer Halburian at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, (951) 210-1000.

Hit, Run & Beat Feet

05/29/2014 — According to Sgt. Larry Sherman of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at about 8:23 a.m. Deputies responded to a Hit and Run traffic collision in the parking lot at Washington Street and Country Club Drive in Palm Desert. A car had collided into another vehicle in the parking lot. The vehicle’s driver and passenger fled the area on foot.

Deputies located the driver, Jason Loudenslager, and passenger, Apolonio Veliz, a short distance away. Loudenslager, age 23 of Coachella, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested for DUI, hit and run, possession of a short barreled rifle, and possession of a high capacity magazine.

Veliz, age 22 of Indio, was found to be intoxicated in public. Veliz also sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.  Loudenslager and Veliz were both booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
