05/28/2017 — The driver of a sport utility that crashed head-on with another vehicle, killing the driver, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence shortly after his release from the hospital Thursday evening, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Gerardo Serrato.

The crash occurred on May 25, 2017, at about 4:30 p.m. on Parker Road east of Modesto between Church Street and Dewitt Road.

Michael Jasper Daniels, 34, of Oakdale, was driving an Acura MDX east on Parker Road when he drifted into the westbound lane and crashed head-on with Mazda 3 driven by Karen Peña-Marquez.

Peña-Marquez, 28, of Modesto, was trapped inside the car and died at the scene.  MORE
