California: Scott Charles Hampton charged with hit and run DUI as he bid adios to wreckage

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. David Wright, on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 10:12 AM officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to a hit and run traffic collision on Highway 111 and San Jacinto Drive in the city of Rancho Mirage.  The investigation revealed that the driver of a white Toyota pick-up truck rear-ended a silver Kia Optima and fled the scene.  Officers quickly  gathered evidence at the scene and located the suspect at his residence on the 47900 block of Park Place in the city of Palm Desert.

The driver of the pick-up was identified as Scott Charles Hampton, age 56 of Palm Desert, who was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.  No one was injured as a result of the collision and the roadway remained open during the investigation.  Hampton was arrested and booked into the jail located in the city of Indio for suspicion of driving under the influence.  Alcohol was determined to be a factor in the collision.
