A 2015 Kia Optima, driven by McGirt, was traveling in the left lane and struck the left rear of the Venza, continued forward and struck the rear of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s unit.
Police said the driver, Chris M. Dent, 37, of Upper Marlboro, who struck the officer was intoxicated and taken into custody. He was not injured in the crash and has been initially charged with driving under the influence.
