CENTENNIAL, COLORADO 01/17/2015– According to the District Attorney George Brauchler of the 18th Judicial District on Jan. 16, 2015, an Arapahoe County jury convicted Jemal Abdelkader Dawed, 39 of Aurora, of the Vehicular Homicide of Littleton Police Department Officer Kevin Wayne Denner (2013CR1015 – Arapahoe County).
The jury found the defendant guilty of Vehicular Homicide – DUI (F3), Vehicular Homicide – Reckless Driving (F4), Driving Under The Influence, Driving Under The Influence Per Se, Fail To Yield Right Of Way/left Turn. The jury deliberated for approximately three hours.
Jesus Cabrera-Molina, the man accused of hitting him with his SUV, was set to learn his punishment on Tuesday morning, but it has been postponed to September 12.
He pleaded no contest to negligent homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal injury accident after originally pleading not guilty to charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
Prosecutors say Raetz was conducting a DUI stop back in may of 2013 when Cabrera-Molina hit him and drove off.
“This is a tragedy that should never have happened,” police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “The guy on the motorcycle is a Philadelphia School District police officer who was on his way to work the midnight shift. He’s married and the father of two small kids. He had on a helmet, had the right of way and did everything right.
