Colorado: WOMAN CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE IN DUI CRASH

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has formally charged a 24-year-old woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that seriously injured a six-year-old girl.
Valencia Lucero (dob: 10-18-86) is charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury (F3), vehicular assault while driving under the influence (F4) and driving under the influence 2nd offense (M). The charges allege that just after midnight on March 31, 2011, Lucero, who was driving with two juveniles in the vehicle, crashed into two parked cars in the 4500 block of Clay Street. The charges further allege that Lucero was drunk at the time, and attempted to flee the scene on foot. She was taken into custody after being located by a Denver Police K9 team.
One of the juvenile passengers, a six-year-old girl, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for serious bodily injury.
Lucero remains in custody; bond is set at $25,000. She is scheduled to appear in Denver County Courtroom 2100 on April 7, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges against her.
