PUEBLO, Colo. — On Thursday, May 5th, at 9:55 PM, officers were dispatched the to the intersection of Highway 50 Bypass and Hudson Ave. regarding a fatal traffic accident.
Upon arrival, officers learned a 1996 Dodge dually 3500 was traveling eastbound approaching Hudson Ave. when it collided into the rear of a 1997 Toyota Camry.
The Camry, also traveling eastbound, was preparing to stop for the light at Hudson Ave.
The collision caused the Camry to spin out and strike a curb, ejecting a female passenger, later identified as Sharon Salas, 54,  who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Camry’s two other male occupants were transported and admitted to a local hospital to be treated for the severity of their injuries.
After the collision, the Dodge truck drove away from the scene. A witness followed the vehicle to an area in the 1600 block of E. Ogden where officers were able to locate the truck and its driver, who appeared to be under the influence.
The driver, 27-year-old Charles Irwin, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, DUI, and reckless driving. He transported to the Pueblo County Detention Center where he was booked in on charges of Vehicular Homicide, two counts of Vehicular Assault, DUI and Reckless Driving.
