Troopers Conclude I-84 Middlebury Fatal Crash Investigation With Arrest

Connecticut State Police report that on October 25, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m. troopers from Troop A – Southbury responded to a two-car motor vehicle crash on I-84 westbound near the South Street Bridge overpass in Middlebury.
Upon arrival, troopers found two vehicles, a Ford Escape and a Porsche Cayman, stopped in the left lane on I-84 in Middlebury. The operator of the Porsche Cayman was fatally injured, the passenger was also injured and transported to Waterbury Hospital for evaluation. The operator of the Ford Escape, Erica Weinman, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for the evaluation of injuries.
Troopers initiated an investigation and determined that Weinman was traveling eastbound on I-84 in the left lane when her Ford Escape exited the roadway, crossed over the center median, and struck the Porsche Cayman which was traveling westbound on I-84 in Middlebury. After being struck, the Porsche Cayman rolled over and came to rest on its roof.
Troopers from the Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (CARS) responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation.
After a nearly year-long investigation troopers applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Erica Weinman.
On October 14, 2016, law enforcement officers in New Jersey took Weinman into custody as a Fugitive from Justice based on the strength of the Connecticut arrest warrant. Weinman was transported from Monmouth County Jail in Freehold, NJ to Troop A – Southbury where she was fingerprinted, photographed and released after posting bond pending her court date.
