Fleeing DUI suspect Chad Barrett intentionally rammed stolen vehicle into Connecticut State Police Trooper
PLAINFIELD, CONN. — The Connecticut State Police report that on March 23, 2017, at approximately 11:00 p.m. troopers from Troop D – Danielson attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Route 12 in Killingly near the Plainfield town line.
Plainfield Police Department originally tried to stop the motor vehicle, a white 2016 Chevy, for traffic violations, however, the operator refused to stop and engaged Plainfield Police in pursuit. Plainfield Police terminated the pursuit at the Killingly town line.
Troopers then spotted the Impala and attempted to stop it, however, the operator failed to stop and engaged troopers in pursuit. The pursuit continued west on Route 6 into the town of Brooklyn.
As a result of the collision the cruiser struck a tree head-on causing extensive damage, and the Chevy Impala drove off the road and struck a stone wall.
As troopers attempted to “box-in” the Impala and roll it to a stop, the suspect/operator, Chad Barrett, swerved right and struck several mailboxes. Barrett then intentionally swerved left and struck the passenger side of a state police cruiser. As a result of the collision the cruiser struck a tree head-on causing extensive damage, and the Chevy Impala drove off the road and struck a stone wall.
Troopers quickly apprehended Barrett and the passenger, Nathan Cordell. The trooper was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and released, Barrett declined medical attention, and Cordell was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and released.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the Chevy Impala was stolen. Barrett and Cordell were taken into custody and transported to Troop D.
Chad Barrett (dob 6/18/98) of 12 Schoonman Ave, Danielson, CT. was charged with numerous charges to include Larceny 1st degree, Possession of Narcotics, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief, Interfering, and Operating Under the Influence. Barrett was held on a $ 50,000.00 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on March 24, 2017.
Nathan Cordell (dob 8/1/97) of 29 Providence St. Putnam, CT. was charged with Interfering with an Officer, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Cordell was held on a $5,000.00 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on March 24, 2017.
