18 Arrested for DUI Over Weekend

First month DUI campaign arrests total 61

Dover–  Delaware law enforcement officers arrested 18 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during week five of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign (July 29 & 30).  Agencies conducting checkpoints and patrols included the New Castle County DUI Task Force, Delaware State Police Troop 1, Millsboro PD, and Rehoboth Beach PD.  In addition to the 18 DUI arrests officers also apprehended 10 wanted individuals, made 11 drug arrests, 9 arrested for felony violations, issued 16 seat belt citations, issued 2 child restraint citations, and issued 70 citations for various other traffic violations.

The weekend’s enforcement brings the total number of arrests for the first month of the 2011 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign to:  61 for DUI, 41 for drug violations, 28 for felony
violations, and 8 for underage drinking violations.  In addition officers have recovered a total of 3 stolen vehicles, apprehended 42 wanted individuals, seized 4 weapons and issued 66 citations for seat belt violations, 20 for child restraint violations and 330 for additional traffic violations.

Two sobriety checkpoints and one patrol are scheduled to occur the weekend of August 5th and 6th. They are scheduled for: Friday August 5th –   Newport(NcCo DUI Task
Force) – Checkpoint Saturday August 6th –  Woodside – (DSP Troop 3) – Checkpoint Smyrna – (Smyrna PD) – Patrols  Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional
sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and
drive.  The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
